Got the 'Oh Comely' magazine as a present, it was wrapped in kraftpaper with a piece of string around it and this nice homemade Pompom on top! The paperpinhole camera and the great enormous scissors were presents too, for my birthday and for 'Sinterklaas' How lucky am I : )

I got the basket and its contents as a present for my birthday : ) it blends in perfectly with the small wood inlaid table that was also a present, but some years ago.
Like these paper masks a lot. Can't help but collecting them whenever I see them. One bird does not like to stay in its place. When I move it back, it magically turns around again within a few days.

The november exhibition, work of my colleagues. We all have our own studio (some share) in the same building. It was great fun doing this exhibition again. And saturday was quite busy too! It was very hard taking pictures of my work, because of little lighting. I will show you some 'studio' pictures soon. Please be patient : ) I am working on it. And there will be new prints in the shop too.

A drawing game:
These three drawings were made by three people. (Rein, Coert and me) Rules of the game: you fold the paper horizontally in three (or more pieces, depending on the number of participants) and everyone has to draw one piece of the body without seeing what the other drew. You have to make to small lines on the next part, so the person next knows were to start drawing.
Finished? Unfold. Laugh.
As you can see we were very into squids at that moment, strange because we did not see each others drawings by then. Anyway I like this game, we have made about 40 of these during my birthdayparty recently.. See the others on Rein Schoondorp's blog, Ram illustratie This is his website.

movember, birds and boxes

Moustache brooch: You probably get that I like moustaches, not necessarily on a man, but in drawings and their shape in general. And after all it is 'Movember', which I think is a very good initiative. It is a shame I will never get one, or not.
Wooden boxes: Made these for the last exhibition, there will be a new exhibition last weekend of November, the 26th and 27th. Will be showing brand new work, along with my colleagues. More info soon.
Birds: (not the right colours and no feet : / Zanglijster, goudhaantje and zwartkop. Made these three years ago, they were supposed to be in a tree on postcards, but I did not like the design in the end so let them be. Just put them on the boxes for now. They are the size of my index fingertip.

Shells from Portugal: Too bad this shop was closed when I was there, on a sunday. But I have collected a lot of shells, so it could be an autumn afternoon project.
Squids from Holland : ) I cut these earrings out of veneer. Finished with squids, completed with hardware and varnished.

Watching them from a distance, looking so small through these trees. Just 20 minutes before I took these pictures, I really pissed off (sorry) a huge bull. There were little calfs running around the meadow, but at the moment we took our camera out to film, they stopped. Because I absolutely love to see calfs running, I thought it would be a good idea to start running (huppelen) a bit myself to get them to move again... Perhaps they thought I was crazy and the bull (2,5 cows in width) did not like it at all. So he started raging and coming towards the fence, which was made of barely one meter high - non electrified barbed wire.

All from the woods (in the north of France) it felt very much like autumn. Even the smell of fallen leafs was already there. They tasted pretty nice, the blackberries, hazelnuts and beechnuts. There was a Badger's hole too! In Dutch: Dassenburcht, I couldn't find the English word for 'burcht'. Unfortunately did not get to meet the badgers themselves...

That is my bike. My fast one, for longer trips. Swallows in France a week ago, they are such excellent flyers! When I visited Vlieland last weekend one of them flew just over my head when I was watching them fly in the grassdunes. Nice. That is not my car, but I like it.

When I was cleaning out my studio, I found a piece of bookbinders linen that I've bought years ago. I always wanted to make little booklets, but never got to it. So I made this (test) one on a rainy day. Next time I would do a bit of research on how to, but it's really nice to do! Most of the tiny papercuts are left overs. But I'd like to make some new ones soon.

This is a tattoo design, my first ever! It took me a while to finish it. It was a commision for Gijs Coolen, a musician. He plays the guitar in the bands: Woost and Moana. The design was inspired on a fairytale by Godfried Bomans.

I am so curious how it will look on him, maybe I can show you a picture when it's done!

We were in 'Zeeland' in the south of Holland, by the sea. Very nice. I would like to visit the Northsea more often, it is not that far away from Amsterdam a trip to the beach. We are planning to go there by bike, I will show you my new 'bicyclette' then.

Oak wooden panels. 10x8,5x2 cm. With a hole in the back to hang on a nail or screw. The oak has a great scent, I have always loved the smell of wood. Especially when it is just sawn. Hopefully one day I will have space for a small woodworking area : )

The exhibition was nice. Saturday we had the best weather and spend most of the day outside, in front of our 'gallery'.
Sunday started rainy and quit, but ended up sunny and funny. Thanks to those who came! Hope to see you again next time.

You can see that I really enjoyed this, I took loads of pics. Love their color palet, Soft pastels and earthy greys with a splash of neon. Before I saw this, I had been thinking about using neons, but was not sure if it would fit my work. Now I think it could if I use it wisely. In the past I never used to like neoncolors so much, but now I am strangely attracted to them. Probably because it is used in a better way these days. Scholten & Baijings

When my father, a friend of his and Coert were building a new roof they found these, under the old rooftiles. Waspnests, they are featherlite, superbreakable and so amazingly beautiful build. The wasps have left the building though ; )

We were in France working on the house for four days and then we took a trip around the area with our tent. A bit chilly at night, but so good in the days. Unfortunately I was enjoying it all so much that I forgot to take pictures, so there's just a few. Luckily Coert takes his camera everywhere and has shot some very nice pictures.

Been away for a week. To France, it was very very nice! I will show you later. For now I'm just sharing a bit of useless information with you.

The highest mountains of the Netherlands :-o

1. Vaalserberg (Limburg) 322 m (about 1000 ft. I believe)

I don't think you can call these bumps 'mountains' but hey, we won't be famous for our mountains/hills or whatever you would like to name them anyway. Everyone knows The Nether- (litterally meaning: 'neder' = low in Dutch) lands are flat. Everytime I've been out of the country it still amazes me how flat Holland really is. Real mountain measurements:

Everest is considered the highest mountain in the world. It is measured 29,035 ft (8,850m). Mountains are generally measured from sea level. But if measured from top to its base below sea level, Mauna Kea beats Everest by 4,436 ft. (over 3/4 of a mile). So, Mauna Kea is the tallest mountain on Earth.

Hi everyone,

First of all, I will promise never to promise to blog more often again (does this make any sense?) Sorry for not showing you anything new lately. I know I should have, but sometimes it's just a bit busy. Last month I've been working on some exciting new things for a gallery/store in Amsterdam. Which I will show you later.

For now, this tiny chap that I have been keeping from you ; ) He is called a "Enge Engel" which means scary angel. But the dutch word 'eng' is a lot less serious. Last picture is of my homemade photostudio, I'm working on something a bit more professional.

It has been so long since I've done a post, it makes me feel a little guilty. But the good news is that I'm very busy making al new stuff and love doing that. So I sort of neglected the blog for good reasons : / Results of the work will be shown here soon.

Today was the first spring-like day of the year, it felt so good! Looking forward to spring and summer, my favourite seasons. Less rain, chapped lips, scarfs and gloves. More sun, evenings out of the house and holidays! When I was looking through my old pictures I found these of past beautiful summers that I will not forget.

It is freakin' cold today! Minus 5, minus 6 degrees celsius. They call it 'snijdend koud' in Dutch (meaning:cutting cold), a strange saying but you can understand where it's coming from, going outside...

Lisboa, painted tiles everywhere. It already seems so long ago... We were in Portugal for two weeks, it was wonderful. Didn't stay in Lisbon, because it was too warm, sticky and crowded for us. We went up north instead, to some small villages by the ocean.

This lemontree reminds me of the movie "Lemontree" I thought it was a very good, though sad film.

France, spent a week there. It was great. Fantastic weather, water (la meuse) and wine ; ) We made blackberry jam, and after a whole lot of 'seperating the berries and the green' it has become delicious!
Wish I had fruit in my garden like the raspberries, red- and blackcurrants and grapes in France... But actually I'm a bad gardener, can hardly menage to pick my tomatoes before the birds eat them.

I'm back, and I have had a lovely summer so far. These pics are taken near the town were I grew up, were I took a walk to the forest a few weeks ago. I also saw a huge amount of butterflies on a field of crops (koolwitjes in dutch) my pictures didn't seem to 'catch' them though, so just have to remember it...

I've been having painful wrists and fingers for a while now. This afternoon it's been confirmed that I have RSI (Repetitive Strain Injury). And that it is actually my back, shoulders and arms that are causing it, due to my bad working posture.
So that's why I need to stop working for a while and do lots of exercises. Hopefully you'll understand that it will be a bit quiet over here. Will be back as soon as I can!

There wasn't a leaf without holes in it there. Though I did not get that on film. Caterpillars. A lot of them, what a strange sound!

A while ago on a sunny day, a few blocks from my studio. The garbage pile was big, but there were even bigger ones. Like 5 metres wide and man-high! The garbage men had a strike for 1 and a half week - you can imagine the smell...

Made out of paperclay, some have tiny papercuts pasted on, the others are painted. The smallest one is the size of my little fingers finger tip. lol
